Overview

This bush to beach trip takes you to Ruma,Rusinga Island,Takawiri Island and Mfangano Island.

A mosaic of landscapes, ranging from riverine woodland and rolling savannah to magnificent escarpments and towering cliffs, Ruma National Park promises undiscovered wildlife treasures and undisturbed peace.  It is also Kenya’s last remaining sanctuary for the endangered roan antelope. Youll also   have a close encounter with Rhinos, girraffes, hyenas, leaopards, buffalos and other herbivores while here.

Rusinga Island lies on the eastern part of the Winam Gulf is one of the Kenya’s unexplored territories.Its one of the best localities in the world for fossils.Then there is Tom Mboya Mausoleum – shaped, aply like  a bullet –  built in honor  of the late  prominent politician who was assassinated  in 1969.While you are on the Island, you might want to visit one of the half a dozen or so fishing villages of Rusinga Island.

Lying to  west of Rusinga  is Mfangano Island  home to the largest population of the Abasuba.There are more fishing villages here.Mfangano Island is known for  ancient rock arts,hiking trails and cultural attractions.

Drift East  and dock at Takawiri Island a “deserted” Island that has a strip of white white sandy beaches and palm trees. This is the best place for beach  picnics, skinny dipping if you are into that kind of thing.

Itinerary:

Day1: Nairobi-Homabay

Pick up at 8am for a road transfer to Homabay via Narok. Scenic stopovers (including Kericho tea plantation, Lake Simbi etc.). Arrive at 6PM. Dinner and overnight stay at Coldspring hotel or similar.

Day 2 : Ruma National tour

Full day ruma national park tour.Transfer to Mbita.Dinner and overnight stay at Victoria sands Mbita or similar.

Day 3: Rusinga Island tour

Depart for Rusinga after breakfast for a 3 hour tour.Ferry transfer to Takawiri Island.Spend the rest of the day at the sandy beaches of takawiri.

Day 4 Mfangano Island-Nairobi

Depart Takawiri for a 2hour Mfangano for a 3 hour excursion.Depart for the mainland for a road transfer to Nairobi.
