Hell’s Kitchen, or the Marafa Depression, is a striking sandstone canyon known for its vibrant colors, particularly at sunsetย . It is located inland from the northern coast of Kenya, about 3.5 hour’s drive from Mombasa.The site is known by locals as “Nyari,” or “the place broken by itself”. The name Hell’s Kitchen comes from the high temperatures that can reach up to 50ยฐC in the gorge during the day. A local legend also attributes the name to a family that was swallowed by the earth as punishment for bathing in valuable milk.
The Mambrui sand dunes, also known as “Little Dubai” (Dubai Ndogo) by locals, areย striking golden sand formations where a desert-like landscape meets the Indian Ocean. They are located on the North Coast of Kenya, approximately 13 km north of Malindi town in Kilifi County
